Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about virtual hypnotherapy and how it can help you
Virtual Hypnosis
Does Hypnosis Work Virtually? Absolutely! Virtual hypnosis is just as effective as in-person sessions. The key to successful hypnosis is your ability to relax and focus, which can actually be enhanced in the comfort of your own home. Many clients find they're more relaxed and open to the process when they're in their familiar environment. Research has shown that virtual hypnotherapy produces the same positive outcomes as traditional face-to-face sessions.
What Technology do i need for virtual sessions? You'll need a reliable internet connection, a computer or tablet with a camera and microphone, and a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be interrupted. We use secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms to ensure your privacy and safety. Before your first session, we'll do a brief technology check to make sure everything is working properly.
How do I prepare for a virtual hypnosis session? Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed. Turn off notifications on your devices, dim the lights, and have a comfortable chair or couch where you can relax. Wear comfortable clothing and ensure you have a stable internet connection. We'll guide you through everything else during the session.
Session Expectations
What can I expect during my first session? Your first session will begin with a consultation where we'll discuss your goals, medical history, and any concerns you may have. I'll explain how hypnosis works and what you can expect to experience. The actual hypnosis portion typically lasts 30-45 minutes, during which you'll remain aware and in control while experiencing a deeply relaxed state. Most clients describe it as a pleasant, peaceful experience.
How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and individual circumstances. Some clients see significant results after just one session, while others benefit from 3-6 sessions. For habits like smoking cessation, many clients achieve success in 1-3 sessions. For more complex issues like anxiety or weight loss, we typically recommend 4-6 sessions. We'll discuss a personalized plan during your free discovery call.
How long is each session? Virtual hypnotherapy sessions typically last 60-90 minutes. This includes time for discussion before and after the hypnosis portion, which usually lasts 30-45 minutes. Your first session may be slightly longer as we'll spend more time getting to know you and your goals.
Safety & Effectiveness
Is hypnosis safe? Yes, hypnosis is completely safe when conducted by a trained professional. You remain in control throughout the entire session and cannot be made to do anything against your will or values. Hypnosis is simply a state of focused relaxation - similar to daydreaming or the feeling you get just before falling asleep. You can emerge from hypnosis at any time you choose.
Will I lose control during hypnosis? No, you will not lose control. This is one of the most common misconceptions about hypnosis. You remain aware and in control throughout the entire session. You'll hear everything I say and can choose to accept or reject any suggestions. Hypnosis is a collaborative process where you're an active participant, not a passive recipient.
What if I can't be hypnotized? The vast majority of people can experience hypnosis to some degree. If you can focus your attention, follow simple instructions, and have a desire to change, you can likely benefit from hypnosis. Some people go deeper than others, but even light hypnotic states can be very effective. Your willingness to participate and trust in the process are more important than your ability to reach a deep trance state.
About Hypnosis
What does hypnosis feel like? Most people describe hypnosis as a deeply relaxed, peaceful state. You might feel like you're floating, very heavy, or simply extremely comfortable and calm. Some clients compare it to the feeling just before falling asleep or the relaxed state during meditation. You'll remain aware of your surroundings and can hear everything that's being said.
How is clinical hypnosis different from stage hypnosis? Clinical hypnotherapy is completely different from stage hypnosis. Stage hypnosis is entertainment designed to create a show, while clinical hypnosis is a therapeutic tool focused on helping you achieve positive changes in your life. In clinical hypnosis, you remain in control, the suggestions are beneficial and aligned with your goals, and the environment is professional and confidential.
Can hypnosis help with medical conditions? Hypnosis can be a valuable complement to medical treatment for many conditions, including anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, and stress-related issues. However, hypnosis is not a substitute for medical care. I always recommend that clients work with their healthcare providers and inform them about their hypnotherapy sessions. For certain medical conditions, I may require a referral from your doctor.
